Meet Me There is a gorgeous film, both in it's luxe cinematography and it's beautiful, haunting simplicity. When he gets the opportunity to play out the biggest prank of all - pretending to be someone he's not, with Ashlyn none the wiser - he jumps at the chance. Okay I did fast forward quite a bit of this movie so some might say I should have been more patient. The town is a bit odd, although not too far from the norm for small rural Oklahoma towns that hates outsiders.
The conversations between Ada and Calvin, particularly in the car, are hilarious. This was one of the sweetest stories I've read in a while. The audio is terrible with much of the dialogue dubbed over. The way they had their innocent meetings at lunch in the dark chemistry lab was just so sweet. But the major problem is the director set the actors up for long, static scenes with lots of patchy dialogue - some interesting, the rest unnecessary.
A hopeful couple try to figure out their mutual sex problem by retracing her repressed past on a visit to her rural hometown. It has so truly suspenseful moments. Low budget, so allowances are made. The kisses were clean but sizzling. When Luke's mom dies the summer before his senior year, he turns to pranking Ashlyn to keep his mind off his loss. I really loved this book- the story had more depth than I expected and our two main characters were so likable and relatable. When he gets the opportunity to play out the biggest prank of all - pretending to be someone he's not, with Ashlyn none the wiser - he jumps at the chance.
Usually, low budget films, which this definitely was, gets crappy actors to go with the crappy budget. So he had to stop the charade. When sixteen-year-old, Ashlyn Brooks, runs into a sweet British guy in the dark Chemistry lab, she has no idea she's actually sitting in the pitch black room with her longtime rival, Luke Davenport. My opinion and review were not influenced by this gift. Soon it got out of control as he was falling for her and she was falling for him. I loved this story with Ashlyn and Luke.
I think the high reviews for this were made by those affiliated with the film. Lots of language but hey what do you expect for this type of film. This story is part of a series but stands alone. We give you the opportunity to meet someone new, and to do something different. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves to swoon, laugh, or even get a little emotional. Will you meet me there? Small towns aren't just weird, they're weird in a way that's completely unique and unsettling, and that's something that Meet Me There understands perfectly. The two leads might go on to better things.
I was uncomfortable at times in a good scary movie kind of way. I can deconstruct and explain the likes of Lynch's 'Lost Highway' and Kaufman's 'Synedoche, New York' with the best of them but I'm clueless as to what the muddled mess of an ending was about and nothing short of a loaded gun is gonna get me to go back and watch it again. Just wanted a quick fluffy read. The locations were well chosen and gave added punch to the creepiness of the film, but too bad the lack of stability on the camera and focus distracted this in many ways. It is basically a prequel even though both books can be read on their own.
She is just the right blend of confident and insecure. We are not a singles organization. The trouble is that when he comes to appreciate Ashlyn as more than a nemesis with whom he can spar, he doesn't know how to get out of the conundrum he's created for himself. Really though I tried to but everything about this movie was just rubbish from the storyline to the acting, to the directing to the the list goes on. They're clearly friends and family of the film makers.
University of Lewisburgh, 1854; Rochester Theological Seminary, 1856. Later, they have sex in a field, and one of her breasts is shown. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves to swoon, laugh, or even get a little emotional. This is just a preview! A spectacular cold open filled with creeping dread sets the tone for the film, which specializes in leaving you unsettled and never fully answering all of your questions. I loved it so much I had to get the Kindle version plus the paperback. With our friends of long ago, Clad in raiment white as snow, Such as all the ransomed wear,— Meet me there! There's a staggering sense of humanity woven through the dialogue that grounds the film, reinforcing the idea that something horrible and fantastic could be all too real. And no, not a single jump scare.
I love how real and believable Luke is. Pretending to be a british exchange student, they kept communicating and soon start developing feelings for eachother. Overall it's very amateurish, badly acted, and a bore. It starts out with the two of them trying to figure out what is wrong with Ada by going back to her hometown which she seems to have repressed a lot of. In fact they both are on a prank war that has been going on since last year.
